The People Podcast

Conversations about work, life and how we grow.

Episode 1 - Navigating Maternity Leave

In our very first episode, we’re getting real about maternity leave - the practical bits, the emotional bits, and everything in between.

I talk with Amy from Arete HR about what it’s actually like to prepare to step away from work, how to have the conversations that feel awkward, and why planning your return matters just as much as planning your leave.

This isn’t a policy walkthrough.

It’s an honest conversation about identity, confidence, handovers, expectations and the stuff no one always tells you.

Whether you’re about to go on leave, supporting someone who is, or trying to build a better culture around it - this episode is for you.

Episode 2 - Identity and Default Roles

In this episode, I sit down with Becky Harrison to talk about her transition into motherhood and her decision to question some of the dominant narratives around it.

We explore identity, partnership and the idea of not becoming the “default parent.”

Becky shares her perspective on feminism, responsibility and what it means to build a family life that feels chosen rather than assumed.

We also briefly touch on how the spaces we live in can shape our mental load more than we realise.

A reflective conversation about intention, identity and doing things differently.

Episode 3 - Flexibility & Reality

In this episode, I sit down with Amy from Arete HR to talk about the evolving expectations around where and how we work.

We explore the tension between working from home and returning to the office, and what organisations are really trying to balance when they ask people to come back in.

Amy shares her perspective from working closely with employers navigating flexible working, alongside the reality many parents face when home and work collide.

We also touch on the often unspoken challenge of having children at home while trying to work.

A reflective conversation about flexibility, boundaries and the changing nature of work.

In this episode, I sit down with Abi Rogers from The Better Brain Company to explore the idea that we’re not as stuck in our thinking as we might believe.

Abi shares her own journey from high stress and anxiety to understanding how the brain works – and how small shifts in the way we think can have a powerful impact on how we feel and show up in our lives.

We talk about the concept of the “busy brain”, why modern life keeps so many of us stuck in overthinking and stress, and how those patterns often show up at work.

We also touch on the reassuring idea that change is possible, even if certain thoughts or behaviours have felt like part of who we are for years.

A reflective conversation about mindset, possibility and learning to work with our brains rather than against them.
